It’s just a few short weeks until this years ASP World Championship Tour starts up again to kick off the new season. As always, it starts off down under at Snapper Rocks, Australia, where the top 34 surfers in the world will battle it out to take this year’s crown. Top WCT surfer and Aussie local Josh Kerr looks to put on a great show for the home crowd and will found with a handful of brand new Hydroflex Surfboards in his quiver for the event.

Last year rounded out with very close race between John John Florence, Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater, and Joel Parkinson, with Joel taking the crown and bragging rights going into 2013. Also, last year brought us tons of new young talent with Gabriel Medina, Kohole Andino, and John John Florence (all under 21 years old) making their WCT rookie seasons ones to remember and ending the season towards the top. Look for SoCal local and Mayhem rider, Kolohe Andino, surfing the shapes by Matt Biolos to get off to a hot start. We recently glassed a board for him.
Some fresh faces on tour this year include Sebastian Zietz, a 25 year old Hawaiian who really made a name for himself in 2012 winning the Vans Triple Crown. ‘Sebass’ will have a board from us in his quiver this year so keep a lookout for some incredible surfing from this new talented competitor.

Location changes and new sponsors will also be found on tour this season. The ASP just recently announced a new event in Bali, Indonesia for the Oakley Pro. This is the first time since 2008 that the tour will be holding an event in Indonesia and the first ever WCT event sponsored by Oakley. Back stateside, with Nike pulling out of surfing, a new sponsorship opportunity opened up for the largest arena surfing has to offer; The US Open in Huntington beach. Vans Footwear has taken over and will host the biggest surfing contest in the world that hosts nearly a million people over the week of surfing.
